Soup Kitchen: On site feeding kitchen. We will canvass the area and ask for retirees or other idle volunteers to prepare and serve a lunch meal daily for the elderly and homeless.
Computer Center:
This center will be housed adjacent to the main building. Basic computer equipment will be set up and used for basic computer training. This program will familiarize potential students for the basic use of the computer. The program is designed to dispel the fear that most people of age and color have about the computer. Classes will be held at 2-week intervals monthly throughout the year. A very affordable five- (5) dollar fee will be assessed to pay for materials used during the course.
Outreach Food Pantry:
A food pantry will be established in the main building to feed clients on as needed basis. Records will be kept to ensure the program is not misused. Monthly parishioner donations and purchase of goods from the Harvesters Food Pantry will be the source of continual availability of goods.
Neighborhood Literacy classes:
Community residents will be encouraged to attend weekly reading classes. This program will be targeted to the elderly, dropouts and others who missed the opportunity to learn to read. This program will be vastly promoted and encouraged in an effort to help community residents help themselves.
Counseling:
Marriage and family counseling will be strongly encouraged for community residents and church members alike. Children and adolescents counseling will be a top priority in this program. Anger control, and alternative remedies counseling will also be available. The county court system will be notified of the last two aforementioned counseling programs in an effort to relieve the already overloaded
Court system and an alternative and deterrent to incarceration.
Men's Power Program:
This program is especially designed to promote and encourage men to participate in an active role in the destination of the community under their leadership and guidance. This program will promote self-respect and men to stand and act as the men who the Lord Jesus Christ left in charge. To take the role that he has assigned to them. Weekly meetings discussing their personal and community concerns will be addressed in length. Issues that will be addressed are as follows:
· Family and Spousal support
· Self Esteem
· Spiritual Guidance
· Job readiness
· Role Models
· Fathering
· Marriage and Relationships
· Education
· Leadership Awareness
NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION PROGRAM:
This program is designed to upgrade, clean up, and beautify the community as a whole. We plan to purchase lawn care equipment, and hire workers/volunteers to go block by block from the area north from Truman Road, south to 63rd, west to Troost and east to Hardesty, cutting down overgrown weeds, trees, and bushes. Cut and manicure grass on the sidewalks as needed. Pick up all trash, and generally clean up the aforementioned area. A contract with the city may be drawn up in an effort to help the city ordinances in an effort to have the community adhere to the continuous support of this program.
The building we are planning to purchase is located in the middle of the community and has the potential to draw a varied large membership. The programs that we plan to introduce have not been developed in the community as a support mechanism.
We plan to enhance the community and its residents in an effort that will promote and upgrade the inner city, through the word of God.
We plan to teach and show the residents of the community that
"GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES"
